The World SF Travel Fund has been set up to enable international persons involved in science fiction, fantasy or horror to travel to a major genre event. We have since settled on the World Fantasy Convention as the most suitable. A combination of genre professionals and fans from the international scene and the United States have gathered together to create the Fund.
The first recipient of the fund was genre blogger and activist Charles Tan, from the Philippines, in 2011. (full-funding).
In 2012 we helped fund Swedish authors Karin Tidbeck and Nene Ormes to WFC in Toronto. (part-funding).
The 2013 recipients were Rochita Loenen-Ruiz from the Philippines (residing in the Netherlands) and Csilla Kleinheincz from Hungary, who both attended the World Fantasy Convention in Brighton. (full-funding).
In 2015, we helped Bulgarian writer Haralambi Markov to attend WFC in Saratoga Springs, New York. (full-funding).
The Board, tasked with selecting future candidates, is composed of Lauren Beukes, Aliette de Bodard, Nnedi Okorafor, Ekaterina Sedia, and Charles Tan.
Sean Wallace is the administrator for the fund.
Lavie Tidhar, who set up the fund and co-administered it with Wallace between 2011-2015, has stepped down from his role. We’d like to thank him for his hard work and dedication.
